Marsala, an earthy, reddish-brown hue, was named the 2015 color of the year by color authority Pantone.
Each year since 2000, the company studies trends in fashion, entertainment and design to select one hue that is expected to have a large influence in the upcoming year. The impact of such a choice is seen not only in the clothing and furniture industries, but also in home décor, graphic design and product packaging as well.
This year’s selection is a departure from the past few years, when electric hues like Radiant Orchid, Emerald and Tangerine Tango carried the banner. Named for the fortified wine of Sicily, Marsala offers a ruddy richness that is substantial, warm and versatile in a variety of settings.
Using Marsala in your Home
Marsala is bold enough to provide a punch of color in accent pieces, but subdued and rich enough to ground the room with a leather sofa or rug.
Marsala also plays well with others. In this patio set, it’s used with a deep black hue that accentuates the crimson undertones.
With this bedding set, its vivid richness provides a pleasing contrast to neutral hues like taupe, gray and beige.
Marsala & Homemakers
If this color seems familiar to you, it could be because it made an appearance in our 2014 Fall Accessory Marketplace! It comes as no surprise to us that our Accessory Buyer, Lori, was way ahead of this announcement, as she keeps us up to date on all that is new, fun, and trending. You can still find some of these items in our showroom!
What do you think of Marsala? Will you be incorporating it into your home décor this year?
