Two great ways to maximize space in a kids’ bedroom are to go vertical and get creative with your storage options. Here are some ideas to adapt for your unique space.

Going Vertical

Bunk beds are one of the most obvious space-saving solutions for a kids’ bedroom. The most common bunk bed configuration is one twin-sized bed situated above another, but twin-over-full bunk beds are also an option.

Look for a bunk bed with an integrated ladder for easy access to the top bunk that doesn’t take up extra floor space. The Benjamin bunk bed from Ashley Furniture offers a sturdy metal frame, a built-in ladder on one end and a durable, powder-coated finish.

For a more rustic approach, consider the Bunkhouse bunk bed from Trendwood. It features clean lines, a twin-over-full design and solid pine construction. You can read more about Trendwood kids furniture here.

Another great option is a loft bed. We like Coaster’s full-sized loft bed, with a built-in workstation. It provides the perfect study space for your child, and would also be perfect for any dorm room, too.

Creative Storage

Optimizing storage is nothing new, so many manufacturers have geared their kids’ bedroom furniture designs toward that end.

Book lovers will love New Classic’s Bayfront lounge bed is the perfect addition. It offers a large, full-length bookcase in addition to two spacious, under-bed drawers and two side doors perfect for bulky items like bedding, stuffed animals and more.

Trundles are another great, space-saving option. They offer either a wealth of additional storage or the ability to house a second mattress for an additional sleep surface, perfect for sleepovers!

That versatility is a welcome addition to kids’ bedrooms of any size. The Expedition twin-sized trundle from Samuel Lawrence slides out easily on casters and includes removable inner dividers.

Even mirrors can offer storage capabilities, like Universal Furniture’s Smartstuff 4.0 version. It has a hidden, pullout storage compartment with hooks and shelving for accessories.

To ensure safety for your kids, make sure you install anti-tip kits on all of their bedroom furniture. These devices secure furniture to walls, preventing it from tipping over. Some manufacturers include anti-tip kits at the time of purchase, but they can also be purchased separately.
