Video: How to Make a DIY Christmas Centerpiece
We sat down with Brandon Roush, our senior visual designer, to talk about celebrating the holidays and how to create a centerpiece that’s both personal and party-perfect. Here’s what he had to say:
“Nothing gets me in the Christmas spirit like the scent of my favorite holiday meals. The smell of my mom’s homemade stuffing always reminds me of being with family and friends, talking about all the great memories we have of past Christmases.
“Every year, we go around the table and talk about what our favorite childhood gifts were, and my mom or dad will chime in with fun stories that go along with our favorite presents.”
Christmas Centerpiece Inspiration
“Since so many holiday memories are made around the table, I love to create centerpieces that are festive, exciting and dramatic. I love putting something together that people will look at and admire. I love being asked, ‘How did you do that?’
“The perfect Christmas centerpiece tells this visual story about who you are and what the holidays mean to you.
“I’m going for an informally festive look with this centerpiece. Nature was the main inspiration for this look. I gathered twigs and sticks with my nephew when we had a nature walk. He picked up the pinecones, and I got the sticks from my mom’s backyard.”
Creating a Christmas Centerpiece
“I’m big on mixing light, color, texture and patterns together. I like to say that plaid is my all time favorite color, so I add plaid where I can! These lanterns are so great paired with natural elements, and that pine smell is perfect for this time of year. Be sure to use flameless candles for a safe, no-hassle look.
“This rustic design is something that anyone can do, regardless of their budget or experience in doing tablescapes. I want people to feel that they can use what they have at home or in their own backyard, in addition to the great accessories we carry here at Homemakers.”
