Des Moines art festival, art, home décor, room décor ideas

Are you ready for art inspiration overload? One of our favorite artsy things to do in Des Moines returns this weekend. The 2016 Des Moines Art Festival is happening in Western Gateway Park from June 24 – 26. To celebrate, we gathered inspiration from five featured artists and created stylish rooms that reflect each artist’s unique style, from woodwork to wall art.

Room Décor Ideas from the Des Moines Art Festival

Woodwork by Matt Estrada

These charming birdhouses add a playfully modern twist to any home décor. Perfect for any kid’s room, their clean lines, color blocking and wood accents inspired our room setup below. We even included a hanging barrel mirror that reminds us of round birdhouse perches.

Fiber by Marzena Weber

These fiber pieces are perfect for any gardener or outdoor enthusiast. We used an earthy palette and floral rug to imitate this artist’s nature-inspired style. Imagine being wrapped in one of these breezy shawls while sitting by a nighttime fire in a cushy loveseat. There’s no better way to enjoy a summer evening after a long day of walking at the Des Moines Art Festival!

Photography by Danielle Reed

Danielle Reed

From Urbandale dweller Danielle Reed comes this enchanting artwork. The images play with light to create a whimsical look and feel. We did the same in our home décor by including a chic arc lamp with mica shades and a glowering, rustic fireplace. We also added an Agate stone side table for an eccentric touch that reflects this artist’s unconventional photography with nature themes.

The wild subjects and crisp composition of these photos led us to create a rustic modern dining space. We incorporated a faux cowhide rug and rough-hewn cathedral mirror for countryside appeal. These complement the sleek, high-contrast dining set and floor lamp that mimic the artist’s clean photography.

Jewelry by Jill Schienle

Organic shapes and shiny surfaces comprise this artist’s jewelry. We love her metallic art and used it to put together a chic craft/hobby room. A crafting supplies storage cabinet, modern desk and jewelry storage mirror combine to create a multi-functional space. The brushed steel, dimmable table lamp is the perfect home décor addition for those late nights when creative inspiration hits.
