Is anyone else ready to leave winter behind? Spring is slowly creeping in despite the groundhog’s prediction for six more weeks of winter. We’re looking ahead past the lingering ice and brisk winds and dreaming about leaving behind cozy winter style for something light and bright. Enter coastal cottage style. You don’t have to live by the beach to turn your home into a tranquil oasis.
We talked about coastal style last year as well because it’s the perfect style to transition from winter to spring and beyond. Coastal style is characterized by driftwood finishes, casual furniture, bright neutrals with pops of blue and breezy décor. Coastal cottage takes those style details and mixes in cute cottage details like light wood finishes, white accents, shabby chic fabrics and soft hues.
It’s also that time to start thinking about patio furniture. We have tons of new collections coming this season and we’re kicking off with a few of our favorite pieces.
Dive into Coastal Cottage Style
Coastal Cottage Living Room
A coastal cottage style living room is a soothing blend of casual comfort, neutral colors and can easily be dressed up with coastal décor. Make your sofa the focal point of the living room and what better sofa to do it with than the Magnolia Home Foundation sofa. This gorgeous sofa will set the coastal cottage palette from the get-go. The blend of Belgian-inspired design and cozy comfort makes this both essential for a coastal space and essential for napping on. The striped burlap pillows are the quintessential touch of charm that any coastal cottage needs.
If you prefer a more transitional living room, the Flexsteel Emmy sofa will still serve as a focal point for your coastal cottage space. The modern design is clean and minimal, so you can decorate with more color and pattern in your rug, occasional tables, lamps and décor. Gray is a staple in any coastal palette and easy to mix with white, blue, green and even lighter shades of gray.
Bring your coastal cottage style living room into the modern age with a chairside table with a built-in power supply. The Ashley Diamenton collection includes five chairside tables in different finishes with different table tops. Choose from white, warm or dark wood finishes or go ultra-contemporary with a black finish. Three tables come with a floating glass top and drawer space while the other two have faux concrete tops and a single open shelf. All five comes with an AC power and USB slots so no matter your choice, you won’t be without a charging outlet.
Coastal Cottage Dining Room
The Ashley Bolanburg dining set is one our bestselling dining collections. It’s versatile and charming, perfect for rustic, cottage, casual and coastal dining spaces. What’s not to love?
Our newest addition is a five-piece counter set. Counter sets are perfect for smaller spaces or if you just want to add something different to your space. The two-tone table comes with four drop-leaves, so you can easily accommodate visitors and family or make the table compact. Two-tone contrast is a hallmark of cottage style- antique white pairs beautifully with distressed oak. In the same two-tone family is the Furniture Classics scrolled table. The reclaimed pine base contrasts with antiqued zinc top to suit our two-tone theme. You’ll also notice the scrolled pedestal base which will be an unexpected touch in a coastal cottage dining room.
Coastal Cottage Bedroom
It should come as no surprise that a coastal cottage bedroom predominately features distressed wood tones to emulate driftwood (without actually picking anything up off the beach). The Edgewood queen collection from Standard Furniture includes a queen bed, nightstand, dresser and mirror. All four pieces feature the distressed pine that sets the coastal cottage palette. This bedroom collection is more modern than a classic cottage with the linear design and tubular metal legs.
Accentuate the pieces with a neutral rug and crisp white, yellow and gray bedding like Standard Furniture or go classic coastal with blue and seafoam green bedding and décor. Cottage coastal style draws heavily on a neutral color palette so there are very few colors that won’t fit into your color scheme.
Coastal Cottage Patio
No coastal cottage is complete with a dedicated patio space with chic and comfortable furniture for lounging. It’s early yet but we’re already looking to warmer months and it begins with essential patio furniture.
Don’t forget gray is one of the staple colors of a coastal cottage! The Woodard Cortland loveseat is a smoky gray that will coordinate beautifully with other coastal colors like blue and seafoam green. The frame is aluminum, which is ideal for an outdoor space since it is naturally resistant to rust.
The Woodard Cortland swivel chair comes in a standard size and an extra-large size that is about two inches wider, three inches taller and 12 inches deeper than the standard size. Both chairs feature a chic nautical striped fabric that not only perfectly suits the coastal cottage color palette, but is weather-resistant as well!
