Des Moines-Inspired Color Scheme Ideas

Center Street Bridge Color Palette

Color Scheme: Iowa fields | Kiwi | Morning fog | Powder blue | Summer skies

Our first color palette is inspired by the iconic Iowa Women of Achievement Bridge on The Principal Riverwalk. This suspension bridge separates in the middle with two pathways where you can peer down at the Des Moines River rushing by below. The bridge’s clean hue contrasts against the rich blue sky and surrounding greenery, making it an undisputed focal point downtown.

To showcase this color scheme, we featured a mirror and table lamp that share the bright sky’s blue hues. We accessorized with a grassy-green rug that perfectly complements the crisp white bed.

Street Art Color Palette

Color Scheme: Concrete gray | Parakeet green | Lime | Berry blush | Dragon fruit

Where can you find the best street art in Des Moines? The East Village, of course! This vibrant color palette was inspired by Patrick Faris’ “Garden of Blessings” mural. Located at 412 E 5th St., his display is bursting with color combinations that enliven an otherwise plain brick alley.

This bright mural inspired the following furniture choices. The rug entwines pops of color with distressed beige and brick hues. We also added a concrete gray accent chair that will match whichever accent colors you choose to decorate with, like a pink side table or lime green table lamp.

Sculpture Park Color Palette

Color Scheme: Candy rose | Caribbean waves | Green apple | Sunflower | Tiger orange

The John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park is a Des Moines must-see. And the most colorful sculpture there is the ‘Panoramic awareness pavilion,’  by artist Olafur Eliasson. You’ll find yourself entranced by panes of partially silvered glass that light up in a brilliant rainbow at night. Eliasson’s vibrant piece is the perfect inspiration for a bright summer color scheme.

Add vibrant energy to your home with our ‘Panoramic awareness pavilion’ color scheme. We went bold with a tiger orange sectional and teal accent chair, complemented by a colorful wall clock. To tie it all together, we accessorized with an abstract rainbow rug that incorporates every hue in our striking palette.
