It’s that time of year again- we’re diving into the Pantone Color Report for Fall 2017! The Pantone Color Institute uses colors shown by designers at New York Fashion Week to determine the 10 biggest colors of the season.
“Bookended by a dynamic Grenadine red and a tawny Autumn Maple, the color palette for Fall 2017 leans more to warmth,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “While comforting, enveloping colors and ease are crucial to the seasonal feeling, standout shades include a pale pink Ballet Slipper, a refreshing Golden Lime, and a bright Marina blue. These hues add a striking touch when paired with the classic autumnal shades of Navy Peony, Neutral Gray, Butterrum and Tawny Port.”
We are always inspired by the Pantone color palettes- in fact we have an entire Pantone Color series! We pulled together a collection of furniture inspired by the fall color palette so that you can incorporate this year’s color trends into your home.

Vibrant and powerful, grenadine is a gorgeous red that will add bright warmth to your space. Evoke confidence and power with a few key pieces. If you’re ready to dive headfirst into this dynamic color, we recommend a barrel chair or plush accent chair. If pops of color are more your style, try a lotus-inspired mirror as a wall accent or a small table with beautiful cabriole legs.
Nothing defines fall quite like an elegant purple hue. Tawny port is a beautiful mix of burgundy and purple that is both sophisticated and classic. A cozy recliner will add not only comfort to your living space but also a warm, colorful focal point. To anchor your space in tawny port, we recommend a beautiful area rug with a fresh white and gray Moroccan trellis pattern. For those who like to make a bigger statement, we have a vintage-inspired sofa in ultra-soft upholstery that will add tasteful style to your room.
Soft and flattering, ballet slipper is not the pink of your nursery days. Recollective of a healthy, rosy glow, we love ballet slipper as an accent color that contrasts beautifully with the darker shades in the Pantone fall palette. Throw down a plush shag rug in soft blush or change out your bedding set for a three-piece collection that is anything but prim and proper. The pintuck pleats add texture while the unexpected fresh hue will make your bedroom a tranquil oasis. For a flattering final touch, we love this set of two canvases with pink mixed with soft purples and blues for a multicolored approach to incorporating ballet slipper into your space.
This isn’t your typical neutral shade! Butterrum is a toasty hue meant to conjure up cozy feelings of sitting by a fire on a cold evening with a glass of, you guessed it, hot buttered rum. This warm hue is so versatile and easy to incorporate into your space. An inviting accent chair is perfect for placing in the best spot in front of the fireplace. If you’re feeling generous enough to find seating for the entire family, an elegant sofa with soft foam seating and down-filled accent pillows is the perfect choice. No relaxing space is complete without an ottoman, whether you use it as an accent piece to a colorful sofa, as an extra seat or as a comfy footrest (or all of the above).
Navy peony is the anchor of the fall palette. If you’re looking for a neutral for fall that is not as dark as black, yet moodier than a transitional gray, you’ll find navy peony will work beautifully. Navy is anything but simple with the pieces we’ve chosen. Go big with a navy leather sofa- who said leather could only be black or brown? A vibrant navy cabinet is both useful for storage and eye-catching as an accent piece. If your tastes run a little more eclectic, an area rug made of re-purposed denim will add cool-kid style and texture to your room. We like the subtle pops of autumn maple, another Pantone fall color!
We know what you’re thinking- “Really? Neutral gray?” Hear us out, with so many vibrant colors in this palette, another anchor color was needed. Gray is the ultimate neutral for décor- not too heavy but still lively enough to be fresh. Monochromatic gray is a chic look for any room or use it as an accent color to balance out brighter hues. We love bold mid-century modern style and this gray leather sofa Best Chair hits all of those style notes. For something a little more transitional, look to the Jonathan Louis Roosevelt chair with blocky track arms and an edgy nail head trim. If color is your MO and neutrals serve as small accents, a simple ottoman is both multipurpose and stylish.
Pantone can always be counted on to draw inspiration from nature. Shaded spruce is no exception, in fact it’s one of two colors in this palette that are derived directly from autumnal foliage. This deep green can be found in evergreen trees but contains a hint of teal blue for depth. For comfy and cozy relaxation, a power recliner in gorgeous velvet upholstery is the perfect choice. If chilly fall nights are spent with the family, a reclining sofa with a pub-style back in rich forest green is the way to go. An area rug in striking green with a rich brown botanical pattern evokes the feeling of being in a forest of evergreens. For a fun pop of texture and color, try a pouf that pulls out the teal tones in this shade.
No Pantone palette is complete without a zesty color! Golden lime just that- earthy green with a golden twist to create a refreshing contrast to the darker shades in this collection. An entire sofa in this bright shade will add an unexpected focal point to your living space (and we love the bold accent pillows). If you prefer a softer version of golden lime, the Digby chair is just as comfortable to sink into as it is stylish. For a bold splash of color, throw down an area rug in golden lime with a cream Moroccan trellis pattern.
Cool in tone, yet bright and vibrant, marina is an essential jewel tone that will lighten up your home. We like the Dalyn Infinity area rug because it features bright marina balanced by navy peony. Two Pantone colors, one rug! The Jonathan Louis Doherty sofa is a study in bold mid-century modern style with low track arms, a boxy structure and splayed legs- and of course bright blue upholstery. For a softer take on marina, the Max Home chair is easy to incorporate into your living space for a fresh splash of color and modern style.
Autumn maple is perhaps the most quintessentially fall shade in the entire Pantone suite. The warm blend of orange, gold and red is both tawny and russet and oh so perfect for the season. The Clarinda accent chair is both mod and striking in its bold hue. The Windsor sofa offers charming style details and a vibrant orange take on autumn maple. For a mid-century take on leather, the Kuka ottoman features supple leather and architectural bracket feet.
