Located near Pappajohn Sculpture Park, this ice cream dive is easy to miss. Look for their serving window right around the corner from Gas Lamp. Take note, there’s no place to dine-in at this Des Moines ice cream shop, but that shouldn’t deter you from this local gem.

The Outside Scoop serves delicious hard-packed ice cream at their Indianola storefront and to the greater Des Moines area via their pink food truck! In addition to their 60 different flavors of ice cream, they offer specialty sundaes, root beer floats, shakes and storms. And to top it all off, The Outside Scoop only uses local ingredients to make their artisan ice cream.

Thelma’s

Whether at the Farmer’s Market or the Des Moines Art Festival, you’ve probably seen Thelma’s delicious ice cream sandwiches around town. It all started with a mother and son selling handmade ice cream sandwiches from a small cart at the Des Moines Farmer’s Market. And now, Thelma’s sells their sweet treats at over 100 retailers!

You can still find Thelma’s locally to enjoy a decadent ice cream sandwich! Pick one up at one of their local retailers, like Hy-Vee and Quick Trip, swing by their storefront or find them at a local festival! They post their schedule online, so it’s easy to find their cart. And if that doesn’t work, they’ll deliver warm cookies and ice cream sandwiches by the dozen anywhere in the Des Moines area!

Goldie’s Ice Cream Shoppe
